Design Graduate

What were you doing before the course?
Before I started the course I completed a three-year bachelor's degree in Applied Social Science/Management. However, I realised that this was not what I wanted to do.

Why did you decide to do the course?
I wanted to do something creative and follow my passion for design. I looked at various graphic design courses and found the outline and structure of the course at Shillington College was the best. I also found the student work very impressive. As I had already studied for three years I didn't want to spend many more years studying so the timeframe here suited me.

What did you enjoy most about the course?
I liked the hands-on approach and structure and I really enjoyed the briefs we were given. The realistic timeframes for each brief prepare you for the fast-paced working environment and the critiques and feedback were really helpful. The atmosphere was really fun and exciting and I am amazed how much I have learnt in three months.

How did you find the college environment and facilities?
The college is set up like a small studio and is a very inspiring place to study. The teachers are lovely and very helpful. There are also plenty of books and magazines in the library for inspiration.

How confident do you feel as you enter the design industry?
I feel quite confident as I think the course prepares you for the working environment and I am excited to start my first job as a graphic designer this week.

What are your next steps?
Shortly after completing the course I started applying for jobs. The first place I contacted called me in for an interview immediately. I contacted various studios and the people who responded really liked my work and asked me to contact them again. However, I had two interviews with a small studio in North Sydney who offered me a position. I will be starting this week!
