Where do you work?
Frost* Design.
What is your role?
I'm a Junior Designer.
When did you graduate from Shillington?
I graduated from the full-time course in May 2010.
How long did it take you to find work?
Two days after graduation I accepted a three-month internship at Frost*. I was subsequently offered a full-time position when the internship was completed.
What were you doing before the course?
I was a dancer and a dance teacher.
Why did you decide to do the course?
I wanted to change my career path and still do something creative. After a little research I felt that I would really enjoy graphic design. Shillington's full-time course was a perfect option for me, as it allowed for a quick career transition.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from the course?
It's hard to name just one thing. The course really prepared me for the reality of the design world. The lecturers were all amazing, and their experience in the industry was a valuable benefit. There were such a wide variety of briefs that were really enjoyable to work on and the social aspect of the course was an added bonus.
How confident did you feel about entering the design industry after you graduated?
I'd be lying if I didn't say I was somewhat nervous. However, knowing I had a solid portfolio and the ability to deliver a brief within a deadline gave me confidence. I still refer to my lesson notes whenever I need a quick recap.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Working with some very awesome and talented designers and seeing something I've designed in print.
