What is your role?
Art Directors Assistant.
What sort of work are you doing?
Pretty much everything; page layouts, assisting photo shoots, image research, responsible for pages getting to production, organising products for photo shoots, coffee run...
What sort of deadlines do you work to?
We usually get about three weeks to design the magazine.
What do you love about Graphic Design?
The ability to make things look amazing! To create something that makes people stop in their tracks and say 'WOW!' and also the satisfaction of having an idea turn into reality right before your eyes (depending on the client of course).
What do you find inspiring?
It depends on the project I am working on, I am a typographic nerd so seeing a cool typeface or type package gets me inspired. I love automotive design, and I find cars (especially concept cars) can be incredibly inspiring and engaging. (Check out the Mazda Furai concept car, amazing!) I am also inspired by motion graphics, there are some amazing studios out there like Superfad or prologue films who create some amazing work such as the DVNO music video. I often check out websites like aisleone.net or refomrevolution.com and magazines such as IDN or Grafik for creative ideas. However, as cliche as it sounds, inspiration can really come from anywhere.
How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
Shillington has given me the tools to make it in the industry. Not only how to use the programs but how to think and analyse like a designer. It has taught me how the industry really works and what creative's look for in juniors. Most importantly, by making design fun and exciting it made me sure that this is what I want to do.
