What is your current job?
Director and Designer
What sort of work are you doing?
We started out primarily producing material for commercial radio stations but are now handling a diverse range of clients. Everything from brochures, press ads and outdoor marketing to sponsorship proposals and audiovisual presentations.
What sort of deadlines do you work to?
It can vary from a few hours (I want it now! Right NOW!) to months.
What do you love about Graphic Design?
Diversity, endless challenge, the opportunity to be creative every day and the fact that there is always something else to learn and experience.
What do you find inspiring?
Design that provokes an emotional response. Great design can make you think, laugh, cry and ultimately act on the message. When a piece of design distracts you from whatever you're doing, draws you in and causes a reaction, it's pretty powerful and inspiring.
How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
I had made up my mind to start the business and doing the course boosted my confidence and knowledge levels enormously. When I started the course I was working on my own from home and by the end of the year we had set up an office in commercial premises with two of us working full time and a third person part time. We've also been able to give some freelance work to 3 Shillington students who I met doing the course. Our aim now is to keep growing the business and expand accordingly. The Shillington lecturers were fantastic and gave me a lot of valuable advice throughout the year.
