What is your current job?
Graphic Designer.
What sort of work are you doing?
Designing and building websites for clients. This is everything from taking the initial brief, presenting three concept designs and getting signoff, right through to building the complete website and loading the content.
What sort of deadlines do you work to?
Concept designs can be up to a week, then usually a few weeks for the whole site to be completed, but I have several clients at once and all at different stages of the process so balancing my workload is really important. Sometimes they only need a minor update but need it that afternoon - so it can be hectic!
What do you love about Graphic Design?
I love the freedom I have to work directly with the clients, and be able to surprise them (and myself) with my ideas! The flexibility of the job is great too - being able to work on several projects each week means a variety of work so I am never bored!
What do you find inspiring?
Seeing my designs out in the real world and being able to show people what I do for work is great. I get inspired by everything I see, and I love photography too - it makes you try to look at everyday life from a different angle.
How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
It gave me confidence in my abilities as a designer! My portfolio from Shillington impressed my employers, and even though it was print-based and my job is web-based the skills were transferable, and I know I can go in any design direction in the future.
