What is your role?
Junior Designer.
What sort of work are you doing?
I do so much! From design, to corrections, to copywriting, to finished art. Every day it's something different! I love the design aspect of it! In terms of clients, they are all different. From hairdressers, to big chains like Supercheap Auto, to brands such as Golden Circle and K.W. Dogget. Each client is different and interesting.
What sort of deadlines do you work to?
Each job varies and deadlines range from 5 minutes to 10 hours. I get about 20 jobs a day and there's not too much pressure to finish them all. You know that there will be 20 more jobs tomorrow for you to complete. You make it fun and give yourself time limits. Every job is making me faster and helping me learn so much.
What do you love about Graphic Design?
I love that I can turn anything into some form of work! And I love when a client gives me a few scribbles on a piece of paper and I have to turn it into something so much more! It's so satisfying and fun!
What do you find inspiring?
I find the people in the roles above me inspiring. Also all of the ads and magazines out there! I find anything remotely arty and pleasing to the eye inspiring. My brain never stops ticking to know how I can turn things into something else.
How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
The skills that are taught are so relevant to the industry and the teaching doesn't stop as soon as you step foot outside the door. I like how the lecturers are always willing to help, even when you have graduated and their experience helps you learn. Shillington also gives you so much confidence as a designer, how to talk about your work and justify it, which is a big thing when talking to clients.
